Apple Mail With Gmail Account Setup
This setup works with both Apple Mail 4 and 5. The purpose is for your Gmail account to behave exactly as it should within Apple Mail as it does from within a web browser. By default, Apple Mail likes to create all sorts of Gmail labels such as ‘Sent Messages’ and ‘Deleted Messages’.
1. Enter your name, email address and password
2. Select All Mail under [Gmail] —> Select Mailbox up top —> Use This Mailbox For —> Trash
3. Select Drafts under [Gmail] —> Select Mailbox up top —> Use This Mailbox For —> Drafts
4. Select Sent Mail under [Gmail] —> Select Mailbox up top —> Use This Mailbox For —> Sent
5. Select Spam under [Gmail] —> Select Mailbox up top —> Use This Mailbox For —> Junk
I also like Gmail to take care of my Spam/Junk and not Apple Mail so do this. Go to Preferences —> Junk Mail —> and uncheck Enable junk mail filtering
This setup will make your ‘Trash’ within Apple Mail actually your ‘All Mail’ archive.
